Introduction to the job

The bolts competence is a team of ASML engineers composed of mainly mechanical development engineers. People from different programs and projects are enrolled in this competence team in order to have a wide coverage of trending developments and specific needs for the company. The aim of the competence is to make all bolted connections in all ASML machines predictable, reliable and robust by providing the necessary means and methods to the community of ASML designers and to validate those connections in the designs. A competence engineer is involved in defining requirements, design rules, procedures and way of working, conducting design reviews, preparing test methods, and qualification of components.


Role and responsibilities

  • Specify, analyze, test and prepare way of working for bolts, in cooperation with other departments and internal/external stakeholders, within the limits of ASML environment and related requirements. Enabling design of (sub-)modules as part of competitive, achievable, reliable and serviceable products with reduced cost of goods
  • Proactively inputs requirements and design rules
  • Executes analysis/engineering tasks and tests specifications versus requirements autonomously
  • Proactively and autonomously carry out tests, verifications and help internal stakeholders with know-how
  • Reports on test results and proposes a technical way forward to ASML stakeholders
  • Deliver timely and professional engineering support to the designer community
  • Interfaces with designers, project leads, competence leads and -owner, component engineer (from Standardization department) and incidentally with suppliers and sourcing
  • In-depth knowledge of own area of expertise and mechanical engineering (or material science) at minimum M.Sc. level

Context of the position

You will be part of the Bolts Technical Competence and report directly to the competence leads, who are in charge of the detailed activity plans. The competence leaders define scope and timing of project milestones. Specification of requirements typically come from a mechanical architect or component engineer. You will work in cooperation with internal and external stakeholders. You will become part of the MDEV Yieldstar group of which your groupleader will be the hiring manager.


Education and experience

  • University degree in mechanical engineering or material science at M.Sc. or PhD level
  • Minimum 3 years relevant working experience
  • In-depth knowledge of principles of mechanical design with a solid background of mechanical engineering or material science
  • Detail oriented and quality focused in mechanical or material science area of expertise
  • Translates engineering challenges into an action plan, which may involve testing, analyzing test results and report results
  • Coding experience is a plus
