Architect the Financial Foundation for a Fast-Growing Sustainability NGO
Are you a strategic financial leader looking to combine high-impact work with a flexible, part-time schedule? Madre Brava is seeking an entrepreneurial Finance Director to act as the architect and operator of their financial systems. In this remote, Netherlands-based role, you will be the strategic right hand to the COO, guiding a fast-growing international advocacy organization through its scale-up phase. If you thrive in a startup-like environment and want to use your financial expertise to drive sustainable global change, this is your opportunity to build something from the ground up.
Madre Brava is a science-based advocacy organization dedicated to achieving 100% sustainable, healthy, and affordable food for all. We envision a future where food production supports the health of humans, animals, and the planet. This involves addressing the impact of livestock production on global emissions and accelerating the transition to sustainable proteins.
As a remote, startup-like organization, Madre Brava operates with agility, strategic experimentation, and a high degree of trust and autonomy. We embrace bold ideas and move quickly to deliver high-impact change. You will be joining a mission-driven team that values discipline and rapid learning.
Madre Brava offers a unique "annualised hours" contract designed to provide predictability during peak periods and flexibility throughout the rest of the year.
- Contract: Indefinite employment contract directly with Stichting Madre Brava.
- Salary: A competitive salary
- Hours: An annualised total of 945 hours per year.
- Schedule structure: Typically 3 days/week during the first 3 months and during quarterly peaks (approx. 3 weeks per quarter), and 2 days/week for the remaining weeks.
- Location: Remote-first (based in the Netherlands), with occasional travel to Eindhoven and other European locations.
- Benefits: Statutory Dutch benefits including paid leave, 8% holiday allowance, and pension contributions (pro rata).
- Culture: A flexible, international work environment focused on professional development and leadership growth.
To succeed in this role, you must be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on operator. We are looking for a seasoned professional who can translate complex financial data into actionable insights for the Board and Leadership Team.
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in nonprofit or international financial management.
- Education & Knowledge: Strong understanding of Dutch accounting standards and ANBI compliance is essential. Familiarity with UK charity accounting is a strong plus.
- Skills:
- Proven ability to build financial systems, internal controls, and reporting structures from scratch.
- Advanced financial modeling skills (cash flow, burn rate, scenario planning).
- Expertise in Excel/Google Sheets; experience with Exact, Twinfield, or Xero is preferred.
- Personality: You are entrepreneurial, analytical, and comfortable with the ambiguity of a startup environment. You are a "builder" who enjoys shaping processes.
- Languages: Fluent in both English and Dutch.
- Mission Match: You have a deep alignment with Madre Brava’s mission to transform the global food system.
