As a Cable Engineer, you will act as a technical authority within multidisciplinary project teams, supporting the engineering, design, and integration of high-voltage cable systems (110 kV and above). You will work closely with clients, grid operators, and internal stakeholders to develop cable routing concepts, perform advanced calculations, and deliver robust, future-proof engineering solutions.
Your scope includes both onshore and offshore transmission projects, as well as interconnectors and grid expansion initiatives across Europe.
Our client, one of the top engineering and consultancy firms in the Netherlands, is renowned for its high-impact contributions to the energy transition. With a strong track record in large-scale infrastructure and deep technical expertise in power systems, they are seeking an experienced Cable Engineer to join their growing Power & Energy team.
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex high-voltage (HV) cable projects across Europe, supporting the decarbonisation of energy networks and contributing to the development of next-generation grid infrastructure.
Your Responsibilities
- Act as a subject matter expert in HV cable system design, from concept through detailed engineering
- Perform electrical and thermal calculations (e.g. ampacity, sheath bonding, induced voltages)
- Develop cable system layouts, routing plans, trench designs, and cable schedules
- Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and protection engineers to ensure seamless system integration
- Advise clients on material selection, installation techniques, and compliance with European standards and utility specifications
- Support tender evaluations, technical risk assessments, and quality reviews
- Ensure all work meets applicable safety, environmental, and industry-specific standards (e.g. IEC, CIGRÉ, EN)
You’ll join a vibrant and technically strong Power & Energy team of 30+ professionals. They operate from offices in both Arnhem and Rotterdam and work on assignments across Europe. - Monthly gross salary between €4,000 and €6,500 depending on experience
- Fixed year-end bonus of 3.4% of your annual base salary (excluding vacation pay), paid in December
- Vacation allowance of 8% of annual base salary, paid in May
- Up to 38 days of paid leave per year
- €2.35 net remote work allowance per home office day
- Travel reimbursement:
- €0.23/km for commuting
- €0.35/km for business travel
- Laptop and company phone provided
- Profit-sharing scheme, depending on company performance
- Pension plan in line with the Dutch PMT industry scheme
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HV cable engineering, preferably in consultancy or utility environments
- Deep knowledge of cable design principles, insulation systems, electromagnetic compatibility, and failure mechanisms
- Experience with calculation tools such as CYMCAP, EPLAN, or similar
- Familiarity with European legislation and standards relevant to HV cables (e.g. EN 50575, IEC 60287, IEC 60840, IEC 62067)
- Proactive, solution-oriented mindset with excellent communication skills in an international project setting
- Fluent in English; Dutch is a plus but not mandatory
