In this position, you are responsible for the cost-effectiveness, design, safety, and compliance of Greif’s technical strategic project management for new investment projects for Greif’s locations in the EMEA region. You design projects and equipment, arrange specifications and ordering, control project budgets involving major capital investments, and modify and improve existing lines or equipment and auxiliaries to enhance or improve processes and systems (BDPs). Additionally, you form and follow structure for knowledge distribution and standards of your assigned substrate, developing improvements and new approaches, and supporting engineering and training in manufacturing processes to improve line performance for the EMEA facilities.
You provide further assistance by managing projects involving engineers, technicians, and production staff, knowing when to involve which expert in the process. Projects include defining and modifying product design and processes, testing materials, developing partnerships, negotiating, and effectively communicating with suppliers as a technical expert, and troubleshooting activities. Technically you help customers and patent lawyers, as well as the sales and leadership teams.
Knowledge-sharing is essential for Greif’s activities, meaning you accommodate this by creating training documentation, delivering training to all levels of personnel, and creating technical documentation. You monitor and maintain engineering knowledge in developing technologies and practices.
You report directly to the Team Leader Engineering.
Additional tasks and responsibilities include:
- Ensuring progress, deliverables, and the application of sound practices by assisting with equipment/process installation, implementing projects, and assisting with installation and verification of achieved performance targets
- Providing technical guidance and support in the development of equipment and process improvements by supporting continuous improvement processes
- Preparing project proposals, including project planning
- Maintaining and organizing design, project progress, and process documentation per engineering procedures
- Creating Equipment Specifications and Request for Quotations (RFQs), as well as ensuring equipment is in line with the latest CE regulations and documentation
- Managing and aligning internal training, coaching, and mentoring of colleagues and customers
- Managing external resources in the context of project execution

- An annual salary between € 80,000 and € 115,000

This position requires an experienced and skilled project manager with extensive technical knowledge, able to think both operationally and strategically while maintaining a helicopter view of processes, stakeholders, and goals.
The ideal candidate also possesses the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent. Knowledge of PCR, blow molding processes (JC, LPDM, IBC) or plastic processing is preferred
- 5 to 10 years of experience in practical mechanical engineering (preferably in the plastics industry), manufacturing and project management, general knowledge in all technical branches, and knowledge of HDPE/other polymers extrusion, blow molding, injection molding technology and equipment (big plus), multilayer/barrier technology, and lean manufacturing systems
- Professionalism and ethics in line with Greif’s, an analytical and pragmatic approach to problem-solving, structure, the ability to drive projects, flexibility, and intrinsic motivation
- The ability to function outside of your comfort zone while still delivering results
- Experience in equipment and layout design and general plant services, CAD, project management, computer skills, and leadership quality
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and planning skills, negotiation skills, a team-focused, can-do attitude, and the capacity to gain 'buy-in' at all organizational levels
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- Time management skills and commitment to personal development
- Willingness to travel (approximately 50%)
