The position

As a Machine / Industrial Automation Engineer, you design and implement control, coordination and automation solutions for complex mechatronic systems. You work on high-performance machines and autonomous modules where precision, reliability and intelligent behavior are essential.

You will develop sequencing and state models, coordinate autonomous subsystems, and ensure robust system behavior under all operating conditions. You bridge the gap

between mechatronics and software, using model-based engineering to translate system concepts into validated, scalable implementations. You collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical and software teams to turn innovative ideas into integrated, high-quality machine solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Designing and optimizing control and automation logic for complex mechatronic systems.
  • Developing sequencing, scheduling and state-based models for machine behavior.
  • Coordinating autonomous subsystems and ensuring consistent system-level operation.
  • Analyzing system network behavior, communication flows and timing constraints.
  • Implementing strategies for damage control, fault handling and safe recovery.
  • Designing mode-switching behavior for hybrid systems with multiple operating states.
  • Defining and implementing calibration, performance monitoring, and diagnostic (CPD) concepts to ensure accuracy, stability, and serviceability of the system.
  • Building and validating dynamic and simulation models using model-based engineering.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, integrated machine solutions.

About the company

The company stands for research and development. With a group of creative designers, they translate their customers' requirements and wishes into usable designs for their systems, focusing on manufacturability, functionality and reliability.

About you

Your strengths

  • You hold a Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Controls or Mechatronics, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • You have affinity with or experience in software development, acting as a bridge between mechatronics and software engineering.
  • You have experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

You are skilled in

  • Sequencing, scheduling and state modelling
  • Coordination of autonomous systems
  • System network behavior and communication
  • Damage control and fault handling
  • Mode switching in hybrid systems
  • You are proficient with tools such as Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow, Siemens NX, Enterprise Architect, UML Designer, and Python scripting.
  • You feel at home in high-tech environments such as semiconductor equipment, (autonomous) robotics, and precision positioning systems.
  • You work in a structured, analytical way and can translate complex system behavior into practical, scalable solutions.
  • You enjoy collaborating with specialists from multiple disciplines and take a proactive approach to solving technical challenges.
