Product development engineering in an exciting environment, i.e.: exploring advantages of paper industry's natural fibre products as a response to the automotive industry's challenges on materials applied.


Sappi Europe developed a technology to manufacture high quality cellulose fibre re-enforced plastics. The focus of the position is predominantly on developing compounds with special requirements from the market especially with a focus on applications in automotive. The Product Engineer will operate in an interdisciplinary environment, with close relation to new business development, manufacturing, suppliers and customers.

Key result areas:

  • Execution of complex research and product/technology development related to cellulose fiber re-enforced composites, thereby assuring the realization of targets/specifications, planning and budget
  • Strong interface with new business development (Symbio programme)
  • Define and develop opportunities for applications in automotive and, possibly, other market, in close co-operation with customers
  • Strong interface with manufacturing, for scaling up R&D projects
  • Establish and maintain relations with universities, research institutes and industrial partners
  • Coach and guide laboratory technicians for project related work

We love to meet candidates with the following profile:

  • Academic degree in chemical engineering, polymer chemistry or chemistry
  • At least five years of experience in plastic product development with a strong focus on automotive applications
  • Driven and output focused
  • Experience in project management (reporting, organisation, planning, budget control)
  • Professional command of English
  • Effective communication skills and good sense for political savvy
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
