The total software development and testing group consists of about 70 people, responsible for the whole of requirements, design, implementation and testing of new features and functions. They all design software to control, support and use SMT and Advanced Packaging machines that are known for their high output at high accuracy with growing flexibility, as the market requests.
As one of the Software Designers within the Optimizer Team, your primary challenge will be to create and implement maintainable designs for small enhancements and new features. This requires getting both a broad perspective of the environment of the software and deep insight into the nitty-gritty details. You and the team will be working on the full development cycle of new features, product enhancement, troubleshooting and debugging.
The optimizer team consists of 6 team members and are focusing on maintaining and developing new features for the optimizer product. The main purpose of the optimizer product is to generate placement programs (recipes) which can be used by equipment to produce printed circuit boards. These placement programs should be time optimal and provide the highest machine throughput.
Generating optimal placement programs is very complex since the solution space is huge. Variation points are the PCB layout, the component shape, different ways of aligning components (laser, camera), various ways of feeding components (tape, tray, stick, bulk, wafer), a large variety of tool bits for picking components (gripper, nozzle), inventory constraints (max number of feeders, tool bits and part used) and different machine concepts (dual head, dual gantry, indexing beam, parallel placement, dual lane etc) and machines products. Another important aspect of the optimizer is an accurate model of the machine hardware in order to fulfil a predication requirement of less than 5%.

To be successful in this challenging innovation environment you’ll bring a Master’s degree (or higher) and about 7-10 years of relevant experience. You are an excellent communicator and know how to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experienced in developing Java software
- Extensive knowledge of mathematics and complex (e.g. genetic) algorithms
- Experienced in Object Oriented Development (OOD)
- Know when and how to use design patterns
- Experienced with maintenance in a large code base
- Accurate way of working, strong focus on quality
- Team player with well-developed communication skills
- Fluent in English and preferably Dutch
